Animal Success Stories

Most of the dogs whom we rescue find new forever homes where they live happily ever after. These are our success stories, and we'd like to share them with you. For a variety of reasons, we can't add a photo and story about every dog whom we've ever rescued and placed with a new family, but many of their stories are here.

Shelby
Shelby

Shelby was an absolutely marvelous, sweet, bright girl who belonged to somebody who gave her to somebody else who gave her to somebody else who had released another Sheltie to us previously. (Poor Shelby...just being passed from home to home!) Her last owner realized that she was too busy and turned Shelby over to Sheltie Rescue of Utah. Shelby, a rich mahogony sable, was about 6 years old in early 2007, in excellent health (but needed to lose a little weight — who doesn't?). She was eager to bond with a forever family, had no problem with men or women, and she was very good with kids and other dogs. It didn't take long for that perfect, forever home for Shelby to appear. She is now being loved just the way a wonderful Sheltie girl should be. We've even had the pleasure of puppy-sitting Shelby here at "Camp Sheltie"!

Max

Max was a 4½ year old when he came to us in very early 2007. He was a very healthy, purebred tri-color Sheltie. After his family moved to a smaller house and had a baby, they realized that Max wasn't getting the attention that he was used to having and needed. Max loves the family's new daughter, but isn't as gentle as she needed him to be, so she ran from him...and of course this herding dog was quite happy to herd her around. Max's sweet face caught the attention of an Episcopal minister in St. George, UT, who is engaged to be married to a gentleman who previously adopted another Sheltie, Bisou, from us. Max is very happily settled in with his new Mom and has become very close friends with his future Sheltie-sister — both of whom are always allowed indoors...and on the furniture! Once more, a grand happy ending!!

Jackie O.

Jackie O. was a very small, 3 year old (when she came to us in early 2007) Sheltie-girl who had been required to live outside for all three years of her young life. She's an adorable tri-color Sheltie, became potty trained very quickly, and is bright, friendly, loves to play, LOVES to cuddle, and would also love to share any food you're eating (don't let her!). Her owner turned her over to Sheltie Rescue because they really had no interest in her (unbelievable, but true). Now, Jacki-O is discovering life indoors with people who love to cuddle back, talk to her, scratch her ears, and snuggle in bed, and she's loving it all! It took no time at all for a wonderful couple from northern California to contact us to ask if we'd consider letting them drive to Utah to meet Jackie. As it happened, we were going to be in Oregon very shortly after that, so we asked them to meet us in Oregon, loaded Jackie up into the car, and drive west. This lovely couple met us in Oregon as planned, feel instantly and deeply in love with Jackie — who returned the emotions completely — and adopted her on the spot. Sigh...another lovely success story!!

Missy
Missy

Missy, a Miniature Schnauzer, came to us as a companion to Alex, a sweet Sheltie. After they were here awhile, it became apparent that they were no longer so attached to each other. When a call came from a nearby home that had a senior terrier in mourning over the loss of its mate, we brought Missy over to meet them. We're very pleased to say that Missy, Kailee, and Mom Gail are doing beautifully together.

Jazzie
Jazzie

Jazzie came here with Duke. Initially, we felt it was important to keep the two of them together. After awhile, it looked like Jazzie could really benefit from a home where she could shine without Duke. Duke would be the first to play, fetch a ball, and the first to say hello to new people...kind of leaving Jazzie in the background. Jazzie is in a new home with Mom Eileen and a sister Sheltie. Jazzie and her sister are inseparable and love to play together and nap together. Mom Eileen has them both working on the treadmill after she's done with her own workout. Mom Eileen's devotion to her Sheltie kids is surpassed only by her love for them. Mom Eileen is even helping us out as a volunteer with Sheltie Rescue!
